At the Capital Area Humane Society, we are passionate about animals. Not to be confused with an animal control agency, our mission is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education and example. Our wide variety of programs and services exist to serve the animals and the people of the mid-Michigan community. We hope you will contact us if you have any questions about our organization!
Since our founding in 1936, the CAHS has grown exponentially. Our continued passion to serve both pets and people is exceeded only by the passion of the mid-Michigan community to support us in our mission.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who dedicate their time, expertise, and passion to improve the lives of the animals in our care and in our community. We could not exist without an excellent staff of nearly 30 animal lovers who see each adoption as a victory. More than 450 volunteers devote 14,000 hours of time each year to ensure our animals are properly socialized, exercised and loved.
More than 6,000 animals come through our doors each year; all are provided with food, medical care, a safe place to live and plenty of TLC from our staff and volunteers. We couldn’t do it without the generous support of our corporate partners, donation locations, Veterinary friends and more.
