Partners

Collaboration is a powerful thing and we are proud to have relationships that serve the interests of the animals in a wide variety of ways. From corporations to foundations and schools to veterinarians, there are many people and places that have committed to supporting the mission of the CAHS.  We are honored by our Community Partnerships.

Michigan State University

Eight years ago, we began a partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine. The program gives MSU Veterinary Technology students an opportunity to earn required experience toward their degrees and practical experience in animal examination, vaccination, pediatric anesthesia and spaying and neutering to address pet overpopulation, all in a clinic setting at the Capital Area Humane Society. This program eliminates the need to purchase teaching animals, benefits shelter animals and exposes the students to a wider variety of animals including different animal temperaments, ages and health issues. Students also learn about group housing concerns such as contagious diseases, proper pet care, behavior and how a shelter operates.

Eve’s House/American Red Cross

At times when people face crises, such as domestic abuse or housing disasters and are not able to care for their pets, we offer temporary housing for their animals. Through partnerships with Eve’s House and the American Red Cross we are able to care for people and their pets while they get back on their feet.

Leader Dog for the Blind

Dogs that are surrendered to our organization need another chance to prove their value to the community. Many working breeds appreciate and thrive in an environment where they have a job to do. Leader Dog for the Blind visits our facility and chooses dogs for work with special needs people. We place both pure-breeds and mixed breeds with them.

Customs

U.S. Customs visits our shelter to assess and test adult dogs for work in various areas of the country. We have placed several dogs with U.S. Customs and know that the dogs are well-cared for, happy and fulfilling their lives working for our country.

Hope Network and Peckham

Currently, we are working with Hope Network and Peckham Vocational Center and their clients.
