If you are a current volunteer and have not volunteered at the shelter for more than one year, you MUST attend a refresher orientation prior to coming back to the shelter. To schedule a refresher orientation, please email Lexy at education@AdoptLansing.org. Thank you.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Capital Area Humane Society. Volunteers contribute to the success of everything we do and our animals benefit tremendously from the time and compassion they give.

How to Volunteer

To become a volunteer, you must pre-register and attend an orientation. A program fee of $20 for adults (16+) and $10 for children (8-15) is due at the time of registration and allows us to provide your volunteer t-shirt, name badge, and general printed material without taking money away from the support of the animals in our care. Program fees are non-refundable. For questions regarding volunteering, please contact our Programs Manager, Lexy Ritenburgh at education@AdoptLansing.org.

Adult Volunteer Program - Adults must be at least 16-years-old and attend a volunteer orientation.
Family Volunteer Program - This is for children ages 8-15 years who are physically accompanied by a parent or guardian, who is at least 21-years-old, at ALL times. All family members who will be volunteering MUST attend an orientation. When registering for the family orientation, all members of the family who are 16+ should pay the $20 fee.
