Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I register for the Run & Walk for the Animals and how much does it cost?

A. You can register online or download a printable registration and pledge form then mail, fax to (517) 626-2560 or bring the completed form to pre-registration or to the park on event day. The registration fee is $25 and includes a bandana. All registration fees can be waived with pledges in excess of $25. Remember, this is a fundraiser and there are various incentives for raising more money for the animals, beyond the registration fee!

Q. I HEARD ABOUT A 'PACK PARTY,' WHEN IS THAT?
A. Get your pack together for a little fun at the CAHS on Wednesday, August 13!  We will be hosting this fun event to help you organize your pack, brainstorm about fundraising, and visit the animals you’ll be raising money for! Enjoy dessert and drinks from 5-7pm, view the incentive prizes, and pet a lot of dogs while you’re here. We’ll also host two ‘behind the scenes’ tours of the CAHS, at 5:30 and 6:30.

We hope to see you and your pack on August 13!

Q. How much money is raised at the Run & Walk for the Animals and how is it used?

A. This event has been taking place for 15 years and each year is a fun new experience. All of the event proceeds benefit the animals and programs of the Capital Area Humane Society. We care for more than 6,000 animals each year – all who rely on us for food, safe shelter, medical care and lots of TLC. We also provide education and outreach programs to teach humane values, responsible pet ownership and to end animal abuse and neglect.

Q. Are my pets allowed at the Run & Walk for the Animals?

A. Dogs are welcome to join their owners at the Run & Walk. All dogs must be on non-retractable leashes, up-to-date on their vaccinations, not in any stage of heat and be comfortable around other dogs and people. Cats and other small pets would find the event too stressful and should not attend.

Q. How long is the Run/Walk route and where does it go?

A. Our friends from Playmakers will set at NEW route for this year’s event. It will be a 5K, with an optional one-mile loop for those people and dogs that aren’t up for the entire route. The start time is 10:00 a.m. All runners and walkers will be staged at the start line and begin together. There will be a race clock, but this is not a competitive race.

Q. What is a Pack and how can I start one?

A. A Pack is a group of five or more people that commit to raising $500 or more. The highest fundraising pack will win the coveted Soldan’s Cup. Simply find some friends and register your pack today!

Q. Can I turn in my pledges before the event day?

A. Yes, and we hope that you do! With the easy to use RWFTA website, you can easily create your own participant page and e-mail it to friends and family to solicit donations. Donations made to support you online will automatically be processed and credited to your total event pledges.

Any donations collected in person can be brought to Early Bird Registration on Thursday, September 25, from 4pm to 8pm at Playmakers on Grand River in Okemos. Pledges can also be turned in to the Registration table at Fitzgerald Park on the day of the event.

Q. What if I turn in money at the Early Bird Registration, but get more pledges before the event?

A. You can turn in any additional money collected at the registration tables on event day. The registration volunteers will add the additional pledges to the money already received to determine any additional incentive prizes you qualify for.
