Support comes to the Capital Area Humane Society in many different ways.  Beyond the financial gifts that are vital to the strength and future of our organization, there are also many other wonderful ways to help. Volunteering your time, sharing our mission with your friends and family or otherwise playing an active role in the well-being of companion animals are also valuable investments in our future.

Where the Money Comes From

The Capital Area Humane Society is a non-profit, charitable animal welfare organization which does NOT receive tax dollars or government funding to support its programs. We are dependent on donations of volunteer time, third party efforts and other contributions.

Individual gifts account for 72% of our $1.6 million budget and without such generous support we could not fulfill our mission. That 72% comes from commemoratives & memorials, annual gifts, major gifts, planned gifts and more. Members of our giving clubs and those giving via the United Way campaign are also important parts of our CAHS family.

The remainder of our funding comes from our programming, such as adoption fees and behavior-training classes and support from corporations and foundations.

The Importance of Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the CAHS – from making sure each dog gets a nice walk every day to working in the Dog Spa at the Fur Ball, we couldn’t do it without you! Our volunteers are part of the CAHS family and it is with your help, compassion and dedication that we are able to continue on with our mission of giving pets a second chance. We can not begin to express our gratitude for your support – our Golden Paw Awards banquet, held every year in honor of our volunteers, is a way of saying thank you for all that you do!
